# About Wild Linen Lab

A small notebook of tools for people who wash, mend, sew and dye their own fabric.

## What it is

Wild Linen Lab has five free tools: a [care symbol decoder](https://wildlinenlab.cfd/) for European, international and US labels, a [stain removal guide](https://wildlinenlab.cfd/stain-removal-guide/), a [natural dye calculator](https://wildlinenlab.cfd/natural-dye-calculator/), a [washing temperature guide](https://wildlinenlab.cfd/washing-temperature-guide/) and a [fabric shrinkage calculator](https://wildlinenlab.cfd/fabric-shrinkage-calculator/).

Every tool runs in your browser. Nothing you choose or type is uploaded, there are no accounts, and the pages keep working offline once loaded.

## Where the information comes from

The care symbols follow the published guides from GINETEX (the international care-labelling association behind ISO 3758), Canada's consumer affairs office and the US Federal Trade Commission. Stain methods follow the American Cleaning Institute and university extension services. Dye figures come from the Maiwa Guide to Natural Dyes, and hygiene and energy facts from NHS England, Which? and peer-reviewed research. Each page lists its sources with links, and figures that vary are shown as ranges or marked as estimates.

## Please note

The tools give general guidance. Your garment's own care label and the instructions on any product you use come first, and it is always worth testing a method on a hidden seam. Wild Linen Lab is not connected with any of the organisations it cites.
